Part 2: Healing Anti-Blackness Begins With Us

Confronting and unlearning anti-blackness is an ongoing process that begins within each of us, but we don't have to do it alone. In this workshop, together as non-Black People of Color, we will

• tap into our innate ancestral healing power to bring awareness to the roots of our anti-Black biases,
• practice scenarios for confronting microaggressions rooted in anti-Blackness, and
• commit to transformational solidarity (e.g., I am not free until Black people are free) instead of transactional solidarity (e.g., the Black community fought for me so I must fight for them).

• This workshop builds on the past workshops held in June, July, and August. Attending Part 1 is not required to attend Part 2.

What is Anti-Blackess?

In dr. kihana miraya ross' New York Times Op-ed, Call It What It Is: Anti-Blackness, she writes "anti-blackness is one way some black scholars have articulated what it means to be marked as black in an anti-black world. It’s more than just “racism against black people.” That oversimplifies and defangs it. It’s a theoretical framework that illuminates society’s inability to recognize our humanity — the disdain, disregard and disgust for our existence."

Dr. Ross also calls us to action: "So let’s stop saying racism killed George Floyd, or worse yet, that a racist police officer killed George Floyd. George Floyd was killed because anti-blackness is endemic to, and is central to how all of us make sense of the social, economic, historical and cultural dimensions of human life."
